Rift Junkies is a fan site dedicated to the MMORPG Rift: Planes of Telara, formally Heroes of Telara, by Trion. This site has been created with the intent to support the Rift community as a whole. In doing so we hope to provide up-to-date coverage about anything going on with the game; this will include News, Media, Community Updates, Opinionated Blogs, and other events such as contests and polls. Additionally we have created our own forum that we invite everyone to discuss anything about Rift. This may include theory crafting, strategies, debating news topics and, or lore.

Telara Central would like to welcome the newest Rift: Planes of Telara fansite – Rift Nexus! We look forward to seeing how the site develops and we wish their site all the best for the future.
Rift Nexus is a blog and news site specifically for Rift: Planes of Telara. While we are obviously in very early days and the site is very much beta right now, the hope is to have a number of editors and bloggers, both full time and guest. The intention is to help other independent Rift fan sites in getting traffic, as well as provide a venue for blogs and other commentary by members of the greater community.
What’s in it for Rift Nexus? Absolutely nothing, except for the good feeling that comes from helping to unite the greater Rift community.
If you have any comments, or are interested in becoming an editor or guest blogger, let us know! We would also love to know when your fan site has discussions about any Rift news so that the Nexus can provide a link to your discussion along with the relevant news article.
Please make sure to drop by Rift Nexus and take a look around their great looking site!
We kick things off with our first ever Guild Spotlight with Sablehawk the guild leader of Heroic Dead!
Telara Central: Does your guild have a website? For those that have never visited your site, please introduce it to us.
Sablehawk: Yes we do, our website is located at: https://www.heroicdead.com
Telara Central: When was your guild first established, and was the guild started specifically for Rift: Planes of Telara or does the guild have an online presence in other games?
Sablehawk: The Heroic Dead was established on May 12, 2010 and while the guild was created specifically for Rift: Planes of Telara most of our current members are actually friends from The Mistwalkers which goes all the way back to Horizons. So we’ve known each other for 7 years now roughly.
I stepped out to lunch today with Hal Hanlin, Design Producer for Rift: Planes of Telara. We didn’t have a lot of time so we went to a little Mexican place close by called Una Mas. We quickly ordered our quesadillas and settled at a nice table outside to have our conversation.
I first asked Hal how he ended up in the game industry. He said that in 1997, he was a system administrator. His wife asked him what he would want to do for a living if money were not a factor. He responded that he wanted to make video games.
About two years later, he saw an ad for a systems administrator with a video game company called VR1 in Boulder. Part of his job there was to oversee the servers for several different MMOs. While he was there, the company had an open design submission process. Hal submitted 3 design proposals. Out of 100 submitted proposals, he had 2 in the top 10! At that point, he was offered a position as a designer. And the rest is history, as you were able to see in his short bio that we posted.
Now, on to your questions for Hal!
The purpose of the Guild Spotlight of the Week (GSotW) is to provide each guild with a special opportunity to promote themselves by answering a series of questions. The interview will then be showcased here on Telara Central, so the rest of the community can get a better overall feel about your guild instead of just going by a guild charter.
The GSotW will be non-biased and the order of each guild spotlight will be based on the order which we receive the completed questionnaires. It’s important for the guild leaders or officers to fill out the questionnaire and get it back to us as quickly as possible. However, if a questionnaire is incomplete or is poorly written, it will not be featured in the GSotW, so it’s in each guild’s best interests to fill out each question as thoroughly as possible.
