Default Zone Climate and Terrain

Hey guys! I wanted to make a thread in which everyone can describe their idea of an awesome zone or instance dungeon! And who knows, maybe Trion will take some ideas away from this. :P

My favorite environment in MMOs are places where it's thunderstorming, preferably port cities. In WoW for example, for me, nothing rivals a thunderstorm taking place in Menethil Harbor or Theramore! I just love it! Combining my two favorites things in MMOs. A port city, and awesome weather effects.

I didn't go into a whole lot of detail, but I welcome you guys to if you'd like!

Your turn.

Dark mazes. and dark cities where darkness limits vision and can be used as a combat tool.

I won't go in depth because i am also drawing it :P

I also love a nice storm, Matt. However, I'd also love if some 'extreme' weather effects could impact items like visibility in the area, etc., which the average player would probably be annoyed with (Sythe is not 'average'. )

My favourite type of zone is a deep, dense forest that would actually feel like one, with all the assorted ambience. Every 3D MMO I've played since AC has not had this. Sure, they all had forests, but it never felt like going in a real forest at all...with the right lighting, tree density, etc. etc.

Don't really have a preferred setting... but, hmm. I like places that look inhabited, like castles or towns, where you fight humans and not doodoo demons or whatever. Just go in Rambo style, bows-a-blazin, and tear the place up.

Other than that, I'm not really into dark, stormy stuff. I'd prefer bizarre and crazy zones first. Ya know, interesting things.

Huge grasslands are my preference. I hate jungles and dark decrepid towns and cities.

As for my favourite dungeon I would like to see something that changed, for example i hate that feeling that after the third time going through it you know exactly where every mob, chest and boss was. I meen come on! Diablo 1 had a changing dungeon everytime you played how hard can it be for an mmo in this day and age?!

That would only work if every dungeon was instanced, and though we may like it. Probably piss other people off, because they would have to FIND stuff =O People complain about quests in games like Wow saying they are to hard, and it gives you a darn waypoint to each part how is that hard? I just hope they make this more suited for the Real MMORPG players rather than this new breed which drops a game at the drop of a hat when a new one is released.

Any who! MY favorite dungeons are the ones where it has some depth ever play vanguard!? well your missing out on some not only beautiful dungeons, but some really well designed ones. (the dungeons were nice not the mobs in them lol they were all a little buggy)

Ill say for example khagers End
Big beautiful dungeon made by dwarves, and you start out at the top of this big winding slope that spiraled down to the bottom once there you had the dwarven forge, and you could go through the mouth of another dwarves statue to continue on. One in you found a huge elevator being guarded you take the elevator down. Once on the bottom floor you had 3, or 4 choices of where to go. One direction was full of dwarf skellys from where they buried their dead, NOTE( all areas were just as long as the start, and continued with the same depth throughout.) Area 2- The ongoing expansion into the mountain, Area 3- The lords court with 2 branches off one to the living courters, and another to the pub area . Area- 4 Was some crazy place with a bunch of stones, and mole rats, and ended a little quicker than the others.

My point it all dungeons in that game were huge, and to me that makes them fun even though they are not random really well designed dungeons can take place over random layout dungeons every time unless they do really well done random layouts haha, but that would take forever.

Something else I know its not meant to be real at all, but keeping to a realistic art design, and structure to me also adds in some immersion, and increases my enjoyment of the game.

I know double post Blah, but two different Ideas, and the first one is a bit full dont ya think?

I would L O V E to see an underwater city zone like the gungans in Starwars how it was all underwater and have connection areas like air locks, or what ever so you can see some of the ocean. Man to me that would be great =D

A great dungeon would be a full scale castle invasion. Like other parts in the world of telara it could be dynamic, changing from time to time (like with heroic quest consequiences, maybe) as in is the castle ready, which then there would be a choice to maybe sneak in at night or charge from the back, and something else in day (pretending to be peasants or someone important, maybe?)
Or when the defense is down, penetrate the castle without turning on the alarm by travleing in non-sighted areas (or such) and in night.. well, sneak in, or be suprising and sneak at day? It's not like I know anything about castle penetration tactics :S
Also stuff like expecting ambushes at night and heavy defense at day.

Thumbs up

i'm truly looking forward to seeing the artwork you guys come up with for instances.

i'd personally love to see anything with a beautiful display of very vivid colors and dreamy environments.

i'm a big fan of environments in which you have to interact with objects to proceed
and places that you can actually explore,
instead of just feeling like you're on a single pathway
and in at least one instance,
i'd like to see a final boss that looks like this.

i hope you consider this request.
thank you.
