Default Game changing features from other games.

In my opinion, one of the most game changing features was to the combat system in Vanguard; namely the ability to have both an offensive and defensive target at the same time. For those that didn't/don't play VG, essentially, as a healer, I could target my tank and while I am bashing away at a mob and casting spells on him, my defensive target, my tank, is still targeted and i dont have to deselect my mob to heal my group/defensive target. That feature was a god send to healing/buff classes. I would love to see that brought over to HoT.

Any clever interfaces or amazing pieces of other games you would like to see here in HoT?

I agree about the offensive and defensive targeting scheme that Vanguard uses. I thought it was pretty cool as my wife played a disciple she could attack the the offensive target generating spells to heal the defensive target.

But... but, that was not invented by Vanguard at all. EQ2 had it for many years already and I also doubt that SOE invented it.

He didn't? I misunderstood? It does not need to be something original?

In that case, what about a combat system without auto-targetting/target-locking. That would make combat much more dynamic (but would make the the mechanism in the OP impossible too).

Just because another game has a certain game mechanic doesnt mean that a new game cant have it.. originality is one thing but using something from another game that WORKS is smart. Views is like this is exactly why no MMO ever hits it.. people always want different but never want to keep the good things that are the same. Having a similar mechanic from another game that WORKs and is GOOD is smart. If something in a MMO works I would like to have it **** originality if the game is fun. Thats like saying oh this game can't have a persisitent world because another Game already has it.. thats just stupid as hell. If they actually make this game soo "original" that it doesnt keep any of the good things other MMOs have you might find yourself playing it with few others cause i sure as hell won't be. How many MMOS have copied DnD ? plenty.. I want a fun game not a different game.. fun does not have to be completely "original" as you say

A game can be unique and have different features and utilize items from other games, if you look at the user interfaces in most of the games today, the follow what started in EQ1 moved to EQ2 and WoW and pretty much standardized on it. It is a very clean interface, the graphics on the games can be different but the less resources used to render the better the game can be ... in MMOs Latency is a killer (Literally), more information that has to be processed can slow the game down dramitcally (look at Vanguard). If you combined public quests of Warhammer with many features from Vanguard and EQ2 with a blend of World of Warcrap, and a strong lore, you have something people might play.

The biggest core group of players that are currently dissatified with much of the product are those who enjoyed SOE but are disappointed in the current generation of games.

I truly do appreciate the banter and speculation we have going on here. I again want to thank the site admins keeping this place active even though we are sitting on a deserted island.

i think the public quest system from Warhammer was nice.

To explain it with a few words. Most public quest had 2 or more stages.
let say in stage one you need to kill 20 of Mob "A" in this Area (Public quest was always limited to a specific Area) - anyone could do this you dont need to be in a group or something.
After the 20 "A" Mobs got killed in this area (doesnt matter who killed them) the quest changed to stage 2 .... and so one.. until someone finished the quest. At the end of the quest you got rewarded depending on how much you have done to finish the quest.

And what i miss in almost every game are player run citys or towns.
I know they are hard to realise but it would be so awsome. The large Guildhalls in EQ2 was a start in that direction but not nearly enough.

I do not know if they will have player ran cities in HoT, but the Merchant system is almost in place in many games as auction houses have sprung up. I think Shadowbane or something like that by Atari was going to have player based cities that could be put under siege by other players. Warhammer got close to the concept with battles won or lost affected the occupied areas and it could routinely change hands (cool feature) but it was only on the Roleplay realm vs realm servers.
