They do not want to reveal any information till Guild Wars 2 info is released i think. Honestly right now ... it does not really matter, we are all hoping for a quality product. What i do not want is a rush to release and we get a shitty product like Vanguard, AoC, Warhammer ....

Releasing a good product is different from keeping a community informed. Look at SWTOR for example, anyone remember when they FIRST announced it? They had nothing worth showing, no gameplay videos or nothing. But they opened an official boards, and basically tossed out candy every friday to every other friday to keep people interested. This is from the community end.
My question (guess its different from others) is why can we not get the same? The simple shocker to me is we don't have a PENNY of lore to read. You can't have a game without lore and if lore isn't available for public viewing then...yeah the game could be 1 - 2 years off.

End of year launch is probable for the reason of an unidentifiable length of alpha/beta testing. Some companies run them long and into the ground, others keep em quick and precise. Look at Cryptic (not saying its a good example), but their betas were very short in comparison to say Vanguard (even with the company stuff).

I just wish they'd get their official forums up and running. It's not just that they don't talk about the game, but outwardly, it appears that the project is stagnant. Other games do all kinds of silly stuff to keep their communities busy like silly Q&As where no information is released or community building activities and forum games. None of this stuff happens, and that seems like a bad sign to me.
If you've ever played a SoE MMO, you're paranoid that it means that people are being switched off the project to do other stuff. It feels to me like Trion has picked one project to be the AAA title and the others to be niche games. I hope that's not true, but it's my gut feeling. |

I am amazed by how little companies care about community now. There is just so much 'information' that can be released which honestly doesn't give anything a way. Random screenshots which reveal nothing other than some scenery don't really reveal anything, but at least let fans know the company cares some minimum amount. Even the tiny setting tidbits we used to get were at least interesting and without a greater context also don't reveal anything about the game.

Is Trion a little company? And do they care little about community?
I do not think Trion is a small company. More then 100 million $ venture capital has been invested in that company. As for the second question, what evidence do we have beside the fact they show no real interest in our community at this moment in time: 1. Recently two community manager left. They said there had better offers. The reason those offers were better is that there is probably nothing for them to do at Trion. 2. Jives contacts us. Her job description is assistant community manager, that might indicate that she is assitant to someone or something or it might mean that they have no role for a community manager and named that role assistent community manger, because she is not getting paid that well, and they have no need for a full community manager at the moment. The latter would coincide with the fact that they have nothing to tell to the public at the moment. So, we can tell they have not much interest in community at this point in time. Perhaps they do not realise they are loosing good will because of this or they do not care. That might mean they have no interest in community, but it might also mean more important issues are at work in the company at the moment. It might also mean that the company is not well organised. Do they have plans to change this? We do not know. But they are not sending out the right signals at the moment. Last edited by Ravel; 02-06-2010 at 02:30 PM. |

I think little was taken out of context. I beleive what was meant was the lack of caring or small ammount of care being shown. Either way I am gonna start looking a little harder at Final Fantasy 14 since they are gonna release this year for sure.
Just found out my minor workmans comp injury just turned into a broken T-11, T-12 and L-1 and sitting in my recliner for 3 months. I have to find a game to play or I am gonna fall over dead. Grond |

Well i agree with everything you say guys however a good game takes time to make i give everyone the point that they are not talking about the game that mutch but more you talk about ir more the people going to know when it cames out i suprice happears when you don't know right?? then look back abit and you will find most of the good game toke abit long to make like Saga of ryzom toke 2 years, darkfall unknow but they were 5 years on beta as far as i seen the beta for heroes of telara is not evan out yet it could take another 1/2/3/4 maybe 5 years befour its finish we just have to wait and see what comes next

Just to note, if it was another 2,3,4,5 years before HOT came out, trust me this site nor any of us would be here.
Just pointing out. And comparing other games to this is like apples and oranges.Other games = active communities, community representatives from the comapny, a site with information. I have never seen any AAA mmo since EQ to not say a word about their game to their community. And if its not talking about the game, i've never seen it where they simply didn't communicate to the community about anything, even if its silly. Right now we got zero. And for an mmo that's launching against already-known juggernaughts such as GW2, SWTOR, etc. Yeah its an uphill battle.
