Default What do you want to hear most from Trion?

After sitting around for a bit, thought I'd just toss this up to see what the most of you think.

We can all agree, the silence is painful as most of us anticipate this to be the next "holy grounds". So barring this being another complaint thread, maybe a much more "constructive" approach could be in order right? Perhaps...

I want to know if I am thinking what the community is currently thinking, what does the community want to hear most from the Trion team? A quick timeline for those who haven't been here since the start, HoT was announced at E3 on June 1st, 2009. Small tidbit interviews were conducted with Russ Brown during the E3 time but none of them provided real information on the game. Silence surrounding the game has then commenced since then as no real communication has been givne regarding the status of the game since June 13th, 2009. Counting up to today, it has been 7 long months without any word from any Trion "official". During the time of silence we lost two community employees of Rockjaw and Kunou and were replaced by Jives. But as I say again, nothing has been said.

So, granted all the pushing and nudging a community can actually do to make a company realize that people are remotely interested in their product, I decided to take another approach to see if we can better connect the small community with the Trion team. With this I'm speaking of Developer Blogs, interviews, diaries, introductions, basically more involvement with the community without discussing the game as I do believe Trion employees are people too...I hope.

Now with this being said, most know my previous MMO was Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. With that being said, we can all agree that the community of mmos can make or break a can in a snap of a finger. And I for one want to see this community grow into something that is worth holding on to. Where I am getting at here is that we as the people can only do so much with word of mouth, "I hear about this new mmo" kind of talk. But instead, present a more involved community aspect with developers and prospective players alike, without having to step overbounds. Reason I brought up Vanguard is because I was with them during the pre-beta and beta days and it is an example of how to make players more involved with a game without really doing a thing. I feel that approach can pay off long term divideneds and for Trion being a new start up company, build trust and an overall positive image as a respectable game producer in the already competitive MMO Market.

So with that all being said, I now ask. What does the community want to hear most from the Trion team?

I guess I'll list a few things that I would like to hear:

- What is the "Plan of Attack" that Trion has in store for the community to help build it? I am not speaking of game information, but when will we feel like there is a home for prospective HoT players?

- The pick up of Scott Hartsman was a huge. Why wasn't that posted on the HoT website? Is the website simply a placeholder as I've heard numerous complaints on how "bland" the site was.

- More game information is always great, has Trion taken a look at Telara Central (making its the only "active fansite") and noted the lack in activity due to lack of information?

- Rockjaw and Kunou had the community going with the small Pillow contest but after those two were no longer employed with Trion, the community took a nosedive. Can this be addressed in some for or fashion by Vosx or Jives? Personally I think its been rather lackluster since we lost RJ and Kunou.

- Is it possible to get any interviews with some Trion executives? I say this because all the videos that have been posted surrounding Lars Butler and Russ Brown for me does not show that they have a huge grasp on the current mmo market. Is there anyway we can get an up-to-date video with any of them concerning the current MMO Market situation? Basically I'm rather tired of every video just talking about the same thing we head almost a year ago.

Looking to hear from more of the members here.

I think when you break it down to the core, the majority of folks just want to hear that something is going on. Anything. Check in every few weeks and post a sketch or frame of something. Tell us, " we've been busting oour humps this last three weeks to get the huffalump ready for the widget incursion". Tell us to go jump in a creek...but for Gods sake tell us!

I think most folks that follow here just want an idea of directionality. Crafting is coming along....WE have had a break-through in PVP...etc.

We all realize that we cant have specifics until E3. Just toss us a bone brothers and sisters! Word of mouth will get you everywhere with this community!

I'll be honest in saying that I would just like to see ANY kind of information. As much as I would like the community behind this game to be as strong as possible, it is up to the devs to provide the "meat" for us to chew on. And without any significant info to go on, talking about the game seems moot.

With a 7 month silence period and no real information on the game, there simply is no reason to discuss anything that hasn't already been brought up. Trion knows what we want and they don't have to read to forums to figure it out. The website is minimally informative at best, the Community Reps are gone, and it seems to me that Trion announced this game WAY to far in advance. Announcing a game, only to follow up with piecemeal information is a very bad way to promote a game. All that is gained is the community's frustration as they are teased with bits of medicore information here with no substance.

I don't want interviews. I don't want featurettes about the company and their business ventures with cable networks (SyFy). I don't want contests for tchotchkes. I want real, hard game information. I want a website that is actually worth going to. I want a community newsletter that is sent at least once a month. I want to believe that this game actually has a chance of being released.

I say the last part b/c recently Red 5 Studios, who also was creating an MMO, juts laid off 1/2 of their staff and looks likely to go under before they even get off the ground. The same pattern seen in many failed MMO developers is being seen here and nothing short of the things mentioned will change that. Without any real information to go on, this game is just another hopeful MMO in a sea of opportunity. And unfortunately for Trion, I have no reason to go fishing...

I agree entirely. And I would infact add that to the list of something I want to know as well because a company thats honest about their capabilities is one to be reckoned with. And I'm quite sure that everyone here agrees that HoT was announced WAY TOO early. My real question is does HoT or anyone on their team agrees with that?

And again, you see my posts, I'm willing to be vocal about my displeasure in information on the game. I for one am sick of the "its coming" type fiasco. Because they are relying so much on this "big boom" of information that it will completely reassure us of the future. When in fact, announcing a new game then going under for 7 months and coming back out of the blue, how can one trust that its going to be what they say its going to be?

What I'm saying about features and interviews, is this: there's no excuse not to have any. I don't think it cost money or time away from the game development, for someone to write on a blog a 3 sentence description on how they feel about the current work flows. If they had game information flowing out, then yeah you can go around the features as the results speak for themself correct? But making game information isn't available, the LEAST you could do is provide a small insight on how the thinking methodology of the developers or executives.

One thing I do not hope happen is this. Lars Butler better damn well not become the next John Smedly because I swear if he does...

lol. This game has Vanguard written all over it. All of these developers withthe vision i hear. Chaos happens, Dev's fired, dev's hired (hi scott) and absolute silence. I swear i am in 2006 again.

I was very patient and said, well maybe after the holidays we will get something. We are about to hit Feb and absolutely nothing but some lame peice that had pretty much NOTHING to do with the game itself.

Trion is looking like Sigil Games. Prove me wrong or tell me different. lol I would LOVE to be wrong. I am not playing any MMO's and we need a good one to come out. I have nothing to play.

I want some sort of 'State of the Union' address, personally. Anything is better than total silence, though.

I completely understand that Square is a powerhouse when it comes to this genre, but I dont understand why they can keep the flow of new info coming on FF14 online and Trion cant regarding HoT. It isnt like Square had revealed everything or even close. But they are keeping their core fan base satisfied and on their toes for more.

Red meat...we crave sustenance Trion!!

I know I haven't been around for all that long like everyone else here has. But everything that is said in this forum I agree with. Only problem is no matter how much people post and try to get them to communicated it just wont happen until they are ready. Which sucks and really isn't a smart move but I just hope when they do start to communicated a lot more they have something to share that will be so amazing that we can forgive them for their silence.

Here's the scenario, not sure if Trion is aware but they are going to be entering this MMO Market at quite possibly the worst time given they are a new company and all. But right now if you had to rate their odds of success, even with all the new technology, the Syfy fiasco, the all the red herring awards. Bottomline is, when you have games like Guild Wars 2, FF14, WoW expansion, SWTOR on the horizon, and then little ol' HoT. I meanif I was someone who was scared of a game failing, I would stay clear of HoT and go to the companies that have already proven that they can deliver blockbuster games. So with that already being known, it would be beyond wise for the Trion team to start getting a little fanbase together because the number of Trion/HoT fans compared to GW2, SWTOR, or FF14 fans is not even worth mentioning.

So like everyone, Trion needs to prove us wrong, dearly wrong. I was told that developers and executives see these boards. I will call BS as if they did and they saw how disgruntled nearly every individual is here. I am willing to put money that any normal person's gut feeling would tell them that we need to deliver a reassurance letter or something of substance.

Sorry, the standard "Coming Soon" message has lost all meaning. I've heard it enough time from Silius that I know when someone is blowing smoke.
