Raive, you pretty much summed it up perfectly how I've been feeling for a while now. All I wanted was to provide a gathering place where HoT followers could discuss the game and make new friends. It's never been about fame, monies or anything material for me. My greatest reward is bringing people together and seeing the community blossom, which was the case for a while, but then everything went downhill with the information freeze and silent treatment from Trion, our community is dieing a very fast death.
With that said, I have some good news. A little birdie told that Trion's Community Director, Chris Mancil will be stopping by today to answer our questions.

I thought about it at work in fact, but this is the second time the community has had to voice displeasure in order to get a response from Trion. I look back at the first time I posted this kind of thread and it took 2 weeks to get anything really back. (Most of it was nothing lets be honest). So I question, it it the CMs are getting denied approval of releasing information to the community. Are they trying?
I just feel a bit unease that we have to basically "threaten" in order to get something as opposed to it flowing naturally (and no 6 months in between information intervals is not acceptable). However I did notice a small trend. Since the hiring of Reid and Hartsman, things have literally come to a halt. This is to say they weren't going fast before hand but literally after that news came down the pipes, haven't heard a peep from SH, RJ (think he was gone before), Kunou, or Midoh (before SP introduced). And I also pulled up old Trion news abotu JVC leaving he company as the CEO (Creative) and Hartsman coming in as the new CEO (Creative). Could that be a change in overall company direction that what we saw/heard about at E3 may be completely altered. Again, its all speculation, but when I think about these kinds of things, it makes me think back to my business profs and how they literally drilled into our heads that communication is so vital. Also I keep seeing Kunou/SP viewing the boards? Are you guys lurking around bored or is a response being made. I'd think by now a response of atleast "Ok" could have been made.

Hi everyone! The Trion team does visit this site and these forums quite often - and we are very proud to have you guys in our small community! I thought it was about time I came by and said hello.
Seriously... I know it has been tough on you guys the past few months because the Telara team has been quiet. Development teams have to do this from time to time - usually because we are extremely focused on major parts of the game and this is certainly true for us. The community team has also been quiet, mostly because when we talk to you guys... I want our people to have something very cool / important to say to all of you. The HoT team has been extremely quiet for a while only because we are working on some very big things with the game. And when I say big things - I really mean game changer type of stuff that will make all this waiting seem worth it. It's probably going to be a few more months before we unveil all of our new surprises for you. So that's the bad news. The good news is - 2010 is going to be a ground breaking year for Trion and for Heroes of Telara. This quiet time will NOT be lasting forever - but for just a few more months - then we won't be shutting up until - well, probably never. But I want all of you to know that this community here is very much appreciated. You guys mean a lot to the whole team and it kills us not to be able to tell you we are working on - but that's the way it has to be for now. But it will be worth the wait. Best, Chris Last edited by Vosx; 12-08-2009 at 11:32 PM. |

I understand you want the community managers to present something cool all the time but that isn't always necessary. For example, when Trion picked up Hartsman and Reid on the team. In my eyes, after playing products of both Hartsman and Reid, this is news that should be known across the land and CMs can most certainly take advantage of that. This is not hype building, this is reputation building as Trion is still unknown in the gaming world and bringing in such "iconic" members is a good way to put on a stamp of approval on the development team. As for ground breaking things on HoT. I think most of us have heard that phrase once or twice on other games in development. How is the development going in terms of producing pages of Lore and/or gameplay video from E3 or screenshots? I say this because again, look at the time of year, its December, time to be happy and such right? I want to be happy for HoT but again I can only be so happy about 6 month old information. Being Telara Central is your only real fanbase of the game, I'm not asking for awards for simply being a member of the forums, but making we are the first individuals to buy into a VERY risky investment, if you were to relay information out to the public, you may want to start here as simple conversation. My frustration is again, maybe I don't understand the current situation, but the inability to produce even the slightest gaming info has me and numbers of other members skeptical that maybe the ambitions were too high and a bit more focused on the "technology" more than the game itself. And the communication I feel should be picked up just a bit to make it seem that you guys are still there. There will be quiet times, but months at a time can definately hurt you more than benefit. Its great we finally got a response, but again the question remains is how is the development TEAM doing. How are the individuals who are putting the work down coping. I just want up front honesty because I can admire that than of course if someone trys to blow smoke. I'm like this because again, I come from Vanguard/EQ/EQ2, I know what disappointment feels like and would like it if I didn't have to repeat it here. It starts with communication.

As a person who followed his share of mmos I'm rather confused why they can't say anything/post new stuff.. I wonder why is that.

I figure it's just marketing. They'll start pumping out weekly/monthly updates when they approach launch to keep interest high. It sucks for people like us who have to swallow the dry spells but really, we're 20 people and having a ton of fresh new info for a larger audience would benefit Trion more.
I think one of the biggest reasons people around here are getting so fidgety is because Trion was very active here at first and than all of a sudden there was a massive drop-off of communication. I've been able to keep my mind occupied with other games, so it really doesn't bother me all that much, but I get it (although I do miss the fun this community was at first). I just hope when the time comes to start dishing out the information my interest hasn't completely shifted to a different game.

*whistles* Wow, this is one heck of a thread to have missed out on. Darn life and work and things.
Anyways, I'm torn on this. On the one hand I want to be all cool and say that I side with the devs on this one, can understand where they're coming from and will anxiously wait for whatever scrap they throw us. Because, let's face it, that's what I'll do if I have to. On the other hand I'm with Raive in that I don't see why we can't even get a SCRAP. I mean, a SINGLE screen shot of some land that won't give away anything, or a cool sunset picture, or SOMETHING. I mean, there has got to be something that won't give away information. I'd be happy if someone modeled a stick figure and posed him in random places in the world for us and showed us that. It doesn't matter, because if we see a picture of land then we'll find something to talk about with it. If there is a building we'll find something to talk about with it. We just need... something. Vosx, thanks for stopping by. It's great that you're here to reassure us, and while Souper is right on the money - we're only a few people - we're also currently all you guys have as far as the world wide internet (you thought I was gonna say 'web' there, didn't ya. HAH) is concerned. Here's my deal with this. You're saying this is only going to last a few more months. You're asking Suth to keep this site up for a few more months. You're asking us to just hold out for a few more months. A few more months is a long time. In the meantime you're saying 'wait a few more months with nothing' in a thread which has an overall theme of 'if we don't get something in the next couple of weeks it's worth throwing in the towel'. Sure, there are those of us that would stick around. There are those who would give up after a while. The problem is whether or not the site would be here in a few more months. Thus I have a proposal, assuming Suth doesn't want to keep this up. Suth no longer has to take care of the site here and Trion gives us our own forum on their website to wait at and occasionally chat at until the 'few more months' have passed. That way you still have those who wish to stick around. You could make it available to public registration whenever you're ready. Aaaand... I don't know, it'd be at least a sign that something is someday going to happen. Just a few thoughts from me, anyways. Time to go home and care for a sick wife. |

*peeks in* Yep, there goes Raive again!
Anyways, Sup guys and i am looking forward to info's about this game. There isnt much of anything out there as of right now though. Anyways, about their hush hush thing. I understand why they do it. IF things arent ready, they will not show. I am a Moderator for 2K sports and i know a few people that work there and i ask them tons of questions about various things that have to do with the company and their games. One thing is, they will NOT reveal a darned thing to the public if they arent 100 percent ready to show stuff. They rather it look nice and pretty. They want to be 100 percent ok with what they are showing. I know people get crazy and want everything right now today, heck yesterday, but it doesnt work that way. Just have to have patience. I know patience sucks, but when they are ready, they will show. Last edited by kcxiv; 12-10-2009 at 10:34 AM. |
