Default Ray Dickenson HoT concept art and more in ImagineFX Issue 48

For all of you crazy HoT fans out there - make your way to your local bookstore and pick up a copy of ImagineFX, Issue 48. In this issue John Dickenson talks about his experience working on concept art for Heroes of Telara and you'll also see a few pieces of concept art that have not been published anywhere else. I thought it was an interesting, albeit short, article.

As for the new concept art, it is all on the artist's site, and so now confirmed to be HoT Concept Art:

The Lost Coast? (possibly, different than the one we've seen so far) - a little port village on a newly discovered island.

A desert city, carved out of large sandstone cliffs high above the desert, a "land of orcs and danger".

A forest town nestled deep within a dark forest

John mentions working on '5-8 images per level' and in the end he painted over 100 environment concepts. ImagineFX They doesn't put articles online typically unfortunately, so go run to your local store. It's a fantastic magazine if you're into Photoshop, Painter, and digital art in general.

Lastly, if the artwork on John's website frontpage is HoT art, that would be by far the coolest reward to give a fan if printed out.

Cio
(Not sure if some of these were confirmed in an earlier news post about the artist. Also images are on my slow wiki link as I don't have the fast site open for all yet - my apologies.)

Neato burrito. Looks like Tatooine and Endor. I hope they can capture the scale in-game.

Very nice find, Ciovala!

I'll definitely be picking up a copy of ImagineFX today... lets hope this version is out in the land of Oz. (We're always behind in everything)

concept art is always nice, but it isn't set in stone...

Still nice find!

True, and I'll say that John's stuff can be a bit more 'out there' than some of our other concept art. (Still lovely, just perhaps a bit more exaggerated.)

Having said that, all three images are concepts from areas in-game. I'll tell you the third one is from Gloamwood, which you also saw a cottage concept from earlier this week.

I went to the newsagency this morning and it looks like Australia is a couple of issues behind because they only have the July issue. Check out the running order of the ImagineFX magazine here.

I picked up the July issue anyway because I'm starting to get into drawing myself, I know I kind of left it a bit late in life (turning 31 in November), but it's never too late to learn. I'm actually reading a great book called The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain which I highly recommend to anyone thinking about learning to draw from a complete novice skill level... like myself.

One other little tidbit.

Apparently the settlement in Gloamwood was "one race of people's little forest hideaway."
